JUNE 2005

Scott MacKenzie set yet another world record in the Irish Ferries International Open Spey Casting Championships with an astonishing cast of 60.5 yards in Sunday's heats of this prestigious competition.

Angling commentator and demonstrator Welshman Hwyel Morgan said “we thought Scot's cast last year was awesome but to go over 60 yards this year, is truly amazing”. McKenzie really is world class, his performance at this year's National Country Fair breaks the record of 59 yards he set at the 2004 CLA Game Fair.

The Championship was dominated by the Scottish, with McKenzie going on to win with a cast of 54.5 yards, second place was Gordon Armstrong and James Chalmers took third place.

JULY 2005

The 2005 season opened on 11 February and got off to a flying start. On 15 April a record breaking salmon (pictured below) weighing 30lbs 1/4oz was caught in the River Nairn's "Secret Pool" by Jim Lennon the president of Nairn Angling Association. The previous best was a fish of 29lbs 1/2oz caught by Robin Wallace. Having sent away scales from the fish for examination it was established that it was only a 2-3 year sea winter fish, and had increased it's weight greatly before returning to the river.

AUGUST 2005

Scott Daiwa's UK Game representative presents Jim Lennon with his prizes for winning the Daily Record Fish of the week and also Trout & Salmon magazines fish of the month.
